Aamer Sohail denies altercation with PCB official
Former Test captain Aamer Sohail has denied ever having any argument with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director Board Operations, Abbas Zaidi, during a dinner hosted by former Chairman Lt General (retd) Tauqir Zia for the Pakistan and India senior teams in Lahore last week.
“I never used any crude language nor had any argument with Zaidi. The fact is that when Javed Miandad and Zaidi were talking I overheard him (Zaidi) say something about cricketers. I just went up to him and told him he should not generalise cricketers. He told me “Aamer I am not talking about you,†Sohail said on Wednesday.
“Look I have no grievances with anyone and if I had any problems I can handle it myself. In fact when Zaidi was leaving the function he stood with me and my wife for around 10 minutes before going,†Sohail said.
Former captain Javed Miandad had claimed that after he had an argument with Zaidi, Sohail had also joined in and given a piece of his mind to the Board official.
“No it is not correct. I never used any strong language against anyone. I have no grievances. Why should I do this?†Sohail said.
Meanwhile Director Cricket Operations, Saleem Altaf, when contacted said that he was disappointed with the incident and felt that Miandad should not have behaved the way he did.
“I don’t think this was the right forum for anyone to air his grievances. As it is don’t former players use the television to rubbish the Board all the time. And what has Zaidi got to do with all this. Why target him?†Altaf said.
