Appearance of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi unlikely
The participation of the Pakistan team in a tri-nation cricket series, to be held in Abu Dhabi in September this year, has become a matter of controversy.
Saleem Altaf, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director Cricket Operations, in an interview last month had told Voice of America (VOA) that Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan had already communicated to the patron of the Abu Dhabi cricket board that PCB was considering Pakistan’s participation in the event, provided an attractive financial package was offered.
When VOA contacted PCB Director Board Operations Abbas Zaidi in Lahore on Friday, he said in an exclusive interview, “it was highly unlikely and a most difficult thing due to a shortage of time as there would be hardly any time left for such an event after Pakistan’s tour of England and the ICC Champions Trophy.â€
Zaidi went on to say that PCB was unaware of Pakistan’s participation in such an event. The PCB, he said, had not conveyed any confirmation to Abu Dhabi in this regard neither he was aware of any development.
He said there are people who want this event to take place so they float such news items in the media.
