Asim_Kamal Discarded middle-order batsman Asim Kamal is still hopeful to make a comeback in the Pakistan team for the upcoming tour of England, starting from July 1.

“I am having normal routine of playing club cricket and undergoing training to keep myself fit,” he said in an interview.

Asim, who was ignored by the selectors after lone failure in the third Test against England late last year in the Lahore Test, said, “Just one failure cannot end a player’s career. I am determined to get selectors’ nod for England tour,” Asim, who has scored 717 runs at an average of 37.73 in 12 Test matches runs with eight fifties said.

The 29-year-old left-handed batsman Asim scored two fifties in successive Test matches in Barbados and Jamaica on the tour of the West Indies last year. Talented Asim, who started his Test career with a bang making 99 against South Africa, said he was not fully satisfied with his showing in domestic cricket last season, but added that he was still capable of producing his best for Pakistan. “I am looking forward to get a recall from the selectors because of my track record,” he said confidently.

Asim has the ability to stay at the crease for longer duration which will be the basic requirement for Pakistan batsmen during the tough England tour. Asim received a couple of offers to play in league in Manchester but turned down those because his main objective was to serve the national team.

He said he played one season in Manchester league but focussed more on his attachment with the Pakistan team and home domestic circuit.
