Bangladesh World Cup Squad and Players to Watch
Though Bangladeshi outfit has never gone beyond the preliminary round since making their World Cup debut in 1999 in England, it has surely got the spark to surprise any team in the world cricket. One good portent for Bangladesh could be their World Cup group. They are grouped with SriLanka, India and Bermuda. They have beaten all three of them, albeit just for once.
Whenever “Tigers”, as the Bangladeshi team is called at home, play collectively it does do miracles. It has got plethora of young, talented and volcanic players who can turn the game, but unluckily for them, this seldom happens. They have beaten big leagues quite fantastically, including redoubtable world champions Australia in 2005, but have failed to grow on and cash these successes. Their climb on the steep cliff of international cricket is littered with failures, and very few successes.
Shahriar Nafees, captain Habibul Bashar and Mohammad Ashraful who are capable of playing a stunning knock on any day, on any field, lead the Bangladeshi batting. Tamim Iqbal and Rajin Saleh will also matter when it comes to solidify the batting lineup. Aftab Ahmed, Mashrafe Mortaza, Saqibul Hasan are the ones who can capitalize with their useful contributions. Opener Shahriar Nafees made 104 not out off 112 balls and shared a brave stand of 134 with Saqibul Hasan (42), when they comprehensively won over Bermuda in currently ongoing triangular series also involving Canada.
Tapash Baisya, Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Tapash Baisya will be the key bowlers and they have got the sufficient flare to topple up the other underdogs like Scotland, Canada and Bermuda. These talented yet fledgling bowlers have got the burst, which can disturb many world class batsman. Recent rampage of Bangladesh in Zimbabwe, where they succeeded to clinch 4-match series, mainly due to their bowlers. But in the mega event like world cup they have to bat and bowl their hearts out, in order to leave some mark.
Other Bangladeshi tigers inlcude Mushfiqur Rahim (Wk),Mohammad Rafique,Syed Rasel and Javed Omar.
