Bari, Inzamam to discuss ICC Trophy squad
Pakistan will decide whether to pick Inzamam-ul-Haq in their 14-man squad for next month’s ICC Champions Trophy after discussing the issue with the captain himself, chief selector Wasim Bari said here on Tuesday.
“We will announce our Champions Trophy squad after my meeting with Inzamam,” Bari told this correspondent.
The former Test cricketer said the team composition and whether Inzamam, who is facing an International Cricket Council (ICC) ban would be in the line-up, would be decided after his meeting with the skipper. He expected the meeting to take place after the third ODI against England here at the Rose Bowl.
Bari said Pakistan would announce their squad for the ICC Trophy ‘keeping everything in mind’.
Interestingly, Bari has had a meeting with fellow national selection committee members in Pakistan to discuss the issue and also met the Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan in London recently.
But it will only be after his meeting with Inzamam that the chief selector would get the go-ahead to announce the team. “I’ve had routine meetings with the selectors and the PCB chairman,” said Bari. “The meeting with Inzamam was delayed till after the (third one-day) match in a bid to allow him to concentrate on the game,” said Bari.
