Bell optimistic about win of England in ODIs
England’s in-form batsman Ian Bell is hopeful his team would prevail over Pakistan in the ongoing One-day International (ODI) series.
Bell, who hit a career-best 88 in the washed-out first one-dayer here at the Sophia Gardens on Wednesday night, said the hosts even had a chance to win the game that seemed to be in Pakistan’s hands.
When asked whether he and his teammates were relieved when wet conditions forced the abandonment of the match, he did not agree.
“I’m not too sure there’s relief as we were positive about going out there and getting a few wickets,” he said in a post-match press conference.
England went into the match at the Sophia Gardens after suffering a 0-5 whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka
Bell said it was good to see England not losing the ODI after a series of defeats but added that he would have liked to end the streak by forcing a win.
“It is good to stop the losses but it’s not the way we wanted to stop the defeats. Now we are looking forward to Lord’s where I believe we can beat Pakistan.”
Bell, who hit three tons in the Test series, termed the 88 he scored in the match to help England post 202 as his best ODI innings and added that he was now looking forward to cementing his place in the country’s ODI squad.
