I don’t know why but Dr. Nasim Ashraf, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reminds me of President of Pakistan General (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf. The similarities are too much to go unnoticed. Same aloofness and the same sense of self-righteousness. Same sense of false achievements, and the same stubborn and arrogant attitude, same mishandling of the affairs, and the same reliance on the wrong toadies.

As the dilapidated team returns from India after getting thrashed in all forms of the game in front of billions of spectators, Nasim Ashraf has just shrugged the shoulders and said that he sent the best team available, and he had no qualms and second thoughts about the captaincy of Shoaib Malik. To add salt to the wounds, he boasted that Younus Khan accepted the vice captaincy upon his personal request; as if it was an achievement.

Dr. Nasim Ashraf said that nothing had happened, and there was no need to take any remedial actions as nothing was eroded. So ignominious defeats in ODIs and Test matches are just nothing, huh? Dr. Ashraf said that there was no chance that captain and team management would get replaced, as they were the best, and the governing board including himself have full confidence on Shoaib Malik. And whatever the results of this series or any other series, Shoaib Malik is the captain, and he will be the captain. Period.

He also individually praised all the dimwits one by one starting from Kamran Akmal. He quibbled about the opening and he took evasive actions when asked about the Shoaib Akhtar foray into the Bollywood. Though the twinkle in his eye clearly showed envy. He also said that Mohammad Asif’s surgery is successful, and now the Pakistani attack cannot be faced by any team in the world, including the Bangladeshi outfit.

So that means that Pakistan is likely to give a tough time to Zimbabwe in the upcoming series against them.
