Discipline in the Pakistan Cricket Team

If this chairman only succeeds in instilling the culture of discipline in the national team, it would earn him his job. Due to the lots of money, fame, and un-professionalism, Pakistani cricketers, when achieve some milestone, and become a national celebrity, most of them get out of their skin and starting thinking and behaving like they are above any code of conduct.

This chairman, after the departure of Inzamam-ul-Haq, has taken some serious disciplinary actions against the wayward players. Actions by PCB against Imran Farhat(Funny), Mohammad Asif (strange), Shoaib Akhtar (As usual) send a clear and appropriate message to all the players.

Its good that PCB has atlast realized to strengthen the system instead of system. No players is big enough to ignore the professionalism and the prestige of the country. Players must realize that they are representing the country and they are being observed by millions of people, and especially for most youngesters, they are the role models (rightly or wrongly?)

Its equally good to note that PCB is gripping its hold in the national team, and captain is no more the all in all. We have seen the perils of dictatorship in captaincy in Inzamam’s era. PCB has taken the rights steps in the right directions and now they need consistency. Disciplnary action taken against Imran Farhat is worth-praising.

A brash attitude from a young batsman, who isnt either performing, is strange and was needed to be checked appropriately, which is duly done by PCB. Imran Farhat had a bitter argument with the chief selector Salahuddin Sallu, after which PCB took notice and fined Imran half of the match fee and put him under “observation” for six months.

Mohammad Asif was stricly warned about his immature and stupid conduct which he showed to Srilankan captain Mahela Jayawardene after taking his wicket. PCB has warned him to remain in limits of the ICC code of conduct and according to the same conduct if he repeats this folly again, he would be fined of half of the match fee.

Manager of the national team Talat Ali, who is the veteran in the affairs of Pakistani cricket, also said in a statement to media, that PCB is putting a lot of focus on the disciplinary matters, and would ensure that players know and follow the code of conduct. He  also said that it was very strange of Asif to act in that fashion in Abu Dhabi.

PCB has got a very golden chance to introduce and maintain discipline in the team, as most of the players are young and not that super-stars. PCB should strive to make the team strong, instead of making big names. PCB shouldnt bow to people like Younis Khan, who not only doesnt know how to play, but also refuse to accept the honour of captaincy of Pakistan team. But again, I personally think that this is the only good thing Younis has done in his not-so-brilliant career, which is known by the 16 crore Pakistanis by heart.
