Expert calls for fresh tests
Doping expert Dr Danish Zaheer believes the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should re-test fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif before allowing them to play international cricket again.
Danish, a member of the appeal commission that cleared the pace duo of doping offences on Tuesday, said that he did not support the decision with the belief that the players have not been able to prove their innocence.
However, Danish’s was out-voted by the other two members of the committee ñ Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim (chairman) and Haseeb Ahsan ñ who acquitted the players banned by an earlier committee.
Danish, President of the Sports Medicine Association of Pakistan, said in an interview that the PCB should set aside all the previous inquiries conducted following the doping charges against Shoaib and Asif and opt for fresh dope tests.
He said that there were several ambiguities in the process of tests carried out by the PCB which is why fresh tests are important for a fair verdict.
