Pakistan’s young batsman Faisal Iqbal escaped without any serious damage to his forearm as x-rays carried out on Thursday evening did not detect any fracture, a team official said.

The team manager Zaheer Abbas said that Faisal was taken to the hospital soon after he received a blow as a close in fielder.

“We feared Faisal might be suffering from a fracture because he was in pain but thankfully he wasn’t. It’s just a bruise and he would be okay soon,” he said.

Faisal, standing at forward short leg, was on the receiving end of a full-blooded stroke by England captain Andrew Strauss. He left the field and was taken to a nearby hospital for x-rays.

It would have been a big blow for Pakistan, already in trouble after conceding a huge first innings lead against England on the second day of the Old Trafford Test, had the injury forced Faisal out from the second innings.

Zaheer said that Faisal was given some rest from fielding but would certainly be batting in Pakistan’s second innings. “We would need the best from our batsmen to save this Test and fortunately Faisal would be there,” said Zaheer.

Faisal flopped in the first innings when he got out for three, becoming one of leg spinner Monty Panesar’s three victims.
