Faisalabad Test edging towards a draw
With two days and two and half innings remaining, faisalabad test is edging towards a draw. During the course of game, Pakistan piled up runs through the batting brilliance of Shahid Afridi who scored career best 156 and Inzimam who made his century while battling with a back injury.
Although indian start was good but wickets came in succession, first it was Sehwag who got out in the start of innings and today we saw fall of Laxman, Dravid, Tendulakr and Yuvraj Singh. At that point it felt that Pakistan is dominating the match and India may have to follow on. But Dhoni and Pathan stayed on the crease. With Dhoni playing an innings equivalent to Shahid Afridi’s in elegance and Pathan giving a supportive role.
After the most absorbing day of cricket in this series so far, such has been the dominance of batsmen and the insipidity of the pitch, Bob Woolmer told reporters he still felt a draw was the most likely result. Woolmer said,
More on:India, India in Pakistan 2006, Irfan Pathan, Kamran Akmal, Lahore, Muhammad Yousuf, Pakistan, Rahul Dravid, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Sourav Ganguly, Virendar Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Younis Khan, Zaheer Khan“I suppose we need to get five quick wickets and India need to think the other way. Those two batted really well. At the moment it’s looking like a draw and the pitch doesn’t look to be breaking up. Yesterday I thought the wicket was more uneven but today it looked pretty flat. There were periods where there were a rush of wickets but basically it looks very tough for one side to bowl another out.”
