Flintoff looking towards magic boot for peak fitness

England’s stand-in captain Andrew Flintoff is hoping that ‘magic’ German boot would put him back on track against Pakistan later this summer.
Flintoff, England’s most valuable player, who missed the opening Test at Lord’s against Pakistan because of a recurring ankle injury, is planning to fly to Germany to try out a custom-made new shoe that might make things better for the charismatic all-rounder who is planning to play a major role in England’s Ashes campaign in Australia later this year.
After filling in for skipper Michael Vaughan who is struggling to recover from a serious knee problem, Flintoff was forced out of the England Test squad because of a recurring ankle injury.
He is currently making efforts to regain peak fitness and has played a couple of Twenty20 matches here.
He is scheduled to turn up for Lancashire in their county championship match against Kent on Tuesday and is expected to return to the England Test squad for the second match against Pakistan at Old Trafford from July 27.
But before that, he would fly to the German city of Nuremberg with teammate Steve Harmison to test a ‘magic boot’ being developed by sports goods’ giants Adidas and the British company Asics. The shoe is designed to give Flintoff the best chance of achieving and maintaining peak bowling fitness. Flintoff and his physio Dave Roberts have already had discussions with the two companies.
