Fresh Blood A Must
In my humble opinion, the biggest challenge faced by the Pakistani Cricket right now is the famine of new talent. Our players are aging and they are not up to the mark, no matter what we say or imply. We don’t have any bench strength and we don’t have any influx of new talent.
The world champion Australia and the Twenty20 champion India are extensively experimenting with the new players despite of the fact that they still have the best batsmen and bowlers in the world, who could play for a while, but even then they are chancing out the new players. Same is the case with other teams. Even West Indies, who has become a minnow in recent years is experimenting a little.
Chief selector is right when he stresses upon the chairman Pakistan Cricket Board to focus more on the talent hunt and to less in penalizing the players. Steam has gone out of Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Yousuf, and PCB should focus more on team formation and team improvement instead of the confrontation policy.
Pakistani Cricket team right now lacks talent in every facet of the game and we don’t have any backup available for the existing slots. So PCB should concentrate more on the national team and stop worrying about ICL or IPL. A crash talent hunt programme is needed right now, and I would also like to know the results of that talent hunt programme which was started in cooperation with telco giant Mobilink.
