Geoff Blames IPL in Asif’s Folly
As opium sparkles in the wallet of Mohammad Asif, who is still in the custody of formidable Dubai police, the Pakistani coach doesn’t seem much interested either in the opium, or Asif or in the Indian Premier League.
Eight days ago, Mohammad Asif was returning from India after taking part in the Indian Premier League, and he was allegedly handed over the prohibited drug in the Indian city of New Delhi. Mohammad Asif resisted his arrest and in return is now wallowing in with the other drug addicts in the Dubai cell.
Geoff Lawson says that due to the cheap run away hit of the IPL, the player got blinded and in that frenzy and hubbub he got entangled in the drug racket, and that is why he is in deep trouble. Geoff Lawson, the Henry, predicted that such incidents would be rampant, if such domestic competition with loose control and limited challenge would continue and he also urged ICC to take stern notice of IPL and ICL.
Geoff Lawson was also of the opinion that along with corrupting the players with money and other enticing things like cheerleaders, the domestic games like IPL were destroying the image of the cricket, and if that continues then cricket won’t remain the game of gentlemen.
