Gul yorks Sarwan out of ODIs
West Indian batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan limped out of the one-day series against Pakistan after a swinging yorker from Pakistan pacer Umar Gul left him with a fractured foot on the final day of the third Test here at the National Stadium on Friday.
Sarwan, who was dropped from the second Test in Multan because of poor form, received a brutal yorker from Gul that left him with a hairline fracture on his right foot.
He retired hurt at 35 and was unable to resume his innings as the West Indies lost the Test by a 199 runs.
A West Indian team official had said that Sarwan would go out to bat “if it was absolute necessary to save the match”. But since the tourists were bowled out more than an hour before scheduled close of play, there was no need for him to bat again.
Sarwan received treatment at a local hospital and is now scheduled to fly back home, missing the five-match ODI series against Pakistan. West Indian captain Brian Lara termed Sarwanís exit as a setback for his team.
