Brad Haddin was restricted to light duties as Australia returned to training after a four-day break, but remained confident he would play in the third Test, starting here on Thursday.

While West Australian Luke Ronchi has arrived here, Haddin was still backing himself to be fit for the final match of the three-Test series despite being left to running laps of Kensington Oval and ferrying drinks to teammates during much of the 2ž hour session.

The 30-year-old wicketkeeper broke his right ring finger early in the first Test two weeks ago, but played through the pain in second Test in Antigua and has previously played with similar injuries for NSW.

Ronchi is due to begin training with the squad at Kensington Oval today, with a decision on Haddin’s fitness expected closer to the start of the match. Opening batsman Simon Katich was also back in training yesterday after sitting out the final three days of the second Test with bruising to his ribs.

Katich also had a short bowling session at the end of training in the nets, and is expected to play. Australia retained the Frank Worrell Trophy with a draw in the second Test in Antigua, but up 1-0 in the three-Test contest, will be now looking to seal a series victory in the final match.

The players were given a four-day break after back-to-back five-day Tests, with paceman Brett Lee saying the mini-holiday had done the team a world of good. “It’s actually nice to have a little break, just to get away from cricket is really good and to have a freshen up,” Lee said.

“I think the team definitely needed that. “I think you see by the way the team trained today we were keen to get back in, we did what we needed to do and trained really well. Everyone is feeling better.”
