Hair to officiate in Kenyan triangular tournament

Sacked Australian umpire Darrell Hair would be back in business later this month when he would stand in a three-nation one-day series in Mombasa involving Kenya, Scotland and Canada.

According to a Cricinfo report on Saturday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Hair to stand as an official umpire in the event starting from next week.

The general impression about the controversial Hair is that the ICC sacked him last November for his role in The Oval Test fiasco but he can still officiate in international matches not involving ICC full member nations.

The ICC president Percy Sonn announced in November that Hair would “not be appointed to international matches involving ICC Full Members”.

He added: “The board has discussed this matter with great sincerity and gave lots of attention to it and they’ve come to the conclusion that they’ve lost confidence in Mr. Hair.”

The announcement, which came from Cricket Kenya, clearly caught the ICC unprepared, and a spokesman told Cricinfo that there would be no formal media release until Sunday.

The Kenyan authorities said the other on-field umpires were Ian Gould (Eng) and Buddhi Pradhan (Nepal) while the match referee would be Javagal Srinath.
