I feel sorry for Vaughan: Pietersen

voghanKevin Pietersen feels Michael Vaughan would not have ‘nailed’ a teammate afterthe skipper’s comments on Andrew Flintoff’s antics in the World Cup.

Vaughan appeared to suggest in an interview with The Guardian on Tuesday that the ‘Fredalo’ incident (when Flintoff went out on a pedalo in the early hours of the morning after the loss to New Zealand) affected the entire team’s attitude. However, the Yorkshire batsman told that his words had been “blown out of proportion”.

All-rounder Flintoff, who is currently out of action after surgery on his left ankle, is yet to comment on the matter. He was due to meet with Vaughan on Wednesday.

Pietersen admits he feels sorry for his captain, insisting that England’s World Cup failings were simply down to the team not playing well enough.

“I feel sorry for Vaughany, because I know that he would slate somebody in the press,” he said. “He looks after his players,” he expressed.

“I know he wouldn’t have gone into a press conference or done an article that nailed a fellow teammate. That’s just not going to happen,” he explained.
