An International Cricket Council (ICC) team of officials including two security experts arrived here on Sunday to carry out a comprehensive study of the security arrangements being made by Pakistan for this September’s ICC Champions Trophy

The two security experts from Britain — James Wingston and Kaene Styne — didn’t speak to media persons on their arrival at the airport, stating that the ICC would make any statement on their visit.

Later, two ICC officials also flew into Karachi in the afternoon. The ICC delegation will visit three venues in the city — the National Stadium, NBP Sports Complex and DHA STadium. The officials are also expected to meet with top government and security officials including Rehman Malik, the advisor on interior to the Prime Minister.

Pakistan are scheduled to host the Champions Trophy for the first time this fall but the event remains under a cloud as there are fears that some of competing teams may raise security concerns.

The ICC will take a final decision on the fate of the tournament during a top-level meeting at its head-quarters in Dubai next month. Any negative report from the security experts can force the ICC to move the tournament to Sri Lanka or South Africa.

The ICC officials will also visit Lahore and Rawalpindi — the other two venues for the Champions Trophy ñ before heading back home on May 22.
