ICL Rough and Tumble
ICL has obtained many names from media, boards and senior players. Some of the more interestng ones are Indian Cricket League or Money League or Rebel League or Rogue League or Retired League. In the recent developments, International Cricket Council (ICC) has also made it clear that there is no question about the fact that ICC would recognize ICL in any case.
ICC chief Malcolm Speed said that even India hasn’t officially recognized ICL, so how could ICC do that. Speed also said that in his opinion, which is shared by the most members of the ICC body, ICL doesn’t really resonate with the true spirit of the game and it wont achieve any thing drastic and revolutionary. He also showed his concerns over the new skirmishes ICL has caused.
Malcolm Speed’s statement is surely the view point of ICC. They consider that ICL is nothing but just a loose and uncertain gathering of questionable talent and some old star players. The only attraction ICL has its unlimited budget. It even doesn’t have any notable Indian presence in the players. ICL is also trying to create an atmosphere of thrill and sensation by comparing it to India-Pakistan series.
ICC chief is also of the opinion that such leagues are trying to take undue advantage of the new twenty20 format of the game, which has really taken the world by storm and have added a new dynamic dimension to the game. He said that ICC is committed to maintain the quality in the game, while providing the best of entertainment through bat and ball. He said that ICC recognized the potential of twenty20 and was trying to include twenty20 cricket in the Olympics.
On the other side, Pakistan Cricket Board has taken the tussle one to one with the players who have joined ICL. PCB chairman Dr. Nasim Ashraf has announced a special bonus for the players who have not joined the ICL. The bonus is really lucrative, in which only Class A players are getting 100,000 US dollars.
Pakistani coach Geoff Lawson, though hasn’t said anything bad about the players who have joined ICL in the public, but the close sources have confirmed that he is bit worried about this rough-and-tumble.
