Improvements By PCB

Lots of things are happening at Pakistani side of cricket, and most of them are required to be implemented at once, though for now, only we are hearing the rhetoric. At one side, unexpected and quality-devoid win of Pakistan against South Africa in 2nd ODI at Lahore, has muddied the water more, but after much time and after lots of chagrin to the Pakistani spectators, PCB has decided to give chance to other openers.

Selection Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to make some drastic changes in the 3rd ODI against South Africa, especially in the realm of opening. Selection Committee has asked Khalid Latif to join the national squad, as he has shown some brilliant performances in the recent series against Australia A. Selection Committee has also ordered Yasir Hameed to join the camp. In yet another commendable step, PCB has ordered Imran Nazir and Mohammad Hafeez to play the Quaid-e-Azam trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in the country.

PCB has given another chance to Salman Butt, but as a 12th man, which is a blessing for him, because he hasn’t shown anything to write home about in either test or ODI matches. He has been a sheer failure in batting, in fielding, and also in vice captaining the team. He should also be sent to play the domestic cricket for other 10 or so years.

It is also been reported that PCB isn’t really focusing on the current ongoing series, rather its putting its concentration in the upcoming Indian tour, and for that Shoaib Akhtar is most likely to be included in the team, and for Shoaib’s batting practice, Mohammad Asif would also be included. It would be prudent if PCB doesn’t once again try the old failures yet again. PCB should take fresh faces for the opening and also for the spinning options and should also try out some new all-rounders.

It’s also morbidly interesting that there apparently is nothing being said from the coach side. Geoff Lawson a.k.a Henry is as silent as rock, and either Shoaib Malik says something or the Dr. Nasim Ashraf, the chairman of PCB. Geoff should actively take part in the affairs of team. Five catches dropped in the 2nd ODI doesn’t cast a very fine shadow upon his coaching. Running of Younus Khan and Mohammad Yousuf is as awful before, and Shahid Afridi is still as dumb as ever. Rao Iftikhar and other bowlers are as incompetent as ever. There is no tangible improvement anywhere in the team. Its time, he take some dynamic actions out there.
