It’s an historic achievement
Pakistani cricket officials were over the moon on Friday after their women cricketers qualified for the 2009 World Cup in Australia.
“It’s an historic day for Pakistan cricket,” Nasim Ashraf, the PCB chairman, told ‘The News’. “It is a huge achievement. I mean, who would have thought that Pakistan would just thrash internationally-ranked teams like Ireland and the Netherlands (in the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers) and make the cut for the World Cup,” he added.
Pakistan had beaten Ireland, Zimbabwe and Scotland in their pool matches and then blasted the Netherlands by 94 runs in the semifinals of the qualifying tournament under progress in South Africa.
Ashraf said that the PCB would provide all possible support to the national women’s team to boost its preparations for the Women’s World Cup to be held in Australia next year. “We would ensure that our cricketers go to Australia after doing best possible homework ,” he said.
