Lara denies partying allegations
West Indian captain Brian Lara has rejected rumours that his players partied hard on the night before their embarrassing defeat against India in Montego Bay on Friday.
“I don’t believe any such thing happened,” said Lara referring to reports that some of his team-mates were spotted at a Montego Bay night club late on Thursday night. The West Indians were bowled out for just 85 in a nine-wicket defeat against the Indians at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium.
Lara faced a barrage of questions from a hostile local media following the loss that came just days before their opening World Cup game against Pakistan at Kingston’s Jamaica Park tomorrow.
“I doubt that with the sort of importance this tournament has, any such thing would have happened. We have very committed and professional cricket players who fully understand they are required to deliver on the field,” said Lara.
Most West Indian cricket fans believe their team should win the World Cup on home soil but so far their build up to the event has been far from impressive.
Allegations of indiscipline have added to the woes of his team but Lara shrugged off all such worries saying that his players were completely focused on the game against Pakistan.
