Latif reverses academy resignation

The former Pakistan captain, Rashid Latif, has reversed his decision to resign as Pakistan’s wicketkeeping coach at the National Academy after the PCB denied Salim Malik had been appointed head of the academy

In a letter to the PCB chairman, Ijaz Butt, last week Latif spoke of his shock at the appointment of Malik as the head coach. “Since I was the main figure in the match-fixing inquiry after which Mr. Malik was awarded a life ban which was overturned last month…I have no other choice but to step down as the wicket-keeping coach,” he wrote.

However, now the PCB has denied Malik’s appointment, Latif has withdrawn his resignation. “I spoke with the chairman and Zakir Khan [PCB operations director] and they both assured me that Salim Malik hadn’t been appointed at the National Cricket Academy,” Latif told Cricinfo. “As such, I am taking back my resignation and looking forward to starting with the academy again.”
