Lawson wants leading role in team for Shoaib
Pakistan cricket coach Geoff Lawson has said Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar was not a problem for him and he was looking forward to see him in a leading role in the team.
“I do not agree to the point that he (Shoaib) is a nightmare to the coaches. I have not seen anything like that in him and he is not a problem for me,” he told reporters during his first press conference after starting his coaching assignment with the Pakistan team on a two-year contract here on Tuesday.
When asked Shoaib known for his controversial attitude can create trouble for him, the foreign coach dismissed the question saying “I have no such thoughts in my mind and I am not looking at Shoaib with that frame of mind.”
He said Shoaib is a senior player and he wants to see him in a leading role inspiring the young fellow colleagues.
“I think Shoaib is capable of doing so and I am fully confident that he will be there to be a leader for other bowlers and players,” he said.
When asked to reveal his strategy or plans to build the Pakistani team, he refused to unveil them saying it is between him and the team.
“There is no point to reveal plans or strategies aiming to work on various departments of the team because they are purely internal affairs of the team,” he added.
He said the team needs to work in all departments of the game, not only on the fitness level, when asked fielding was a chronic problem of the team.
