Miandad reappointed as PCB director
Javed Miandad the former Pakistan captain, has been reinstated as director general of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), two months after resigning over differences concerning the exact scope of his work. Miandad had a meeting with the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt before rejoining his previous post.
“I can confirm that Miandad will be re-appointed director general of the PCB from April 1 after meeting the PCB chairman. All his terms and conditions have been settled,” PCB director for human resources, Wasim Bari, told AFP.
Miandad’s reinstatement marks his fifth stint with the board after his retirement – three as Pakistan coach, and two months as director general before stepping down in January. “Now everything is settled and I am happy to be back in the cricket board,” Miandad said. “There is a lot that needs to be done – like how to revive international cricket in Pakistan and how to make our domestic cricket more competitive.”
Butt and Miandad had traded allegations over Miandad’s resignation at a senate hearing on the decline of Pakistan cricket in February. The chairman had alleged that Miandad had demanded more money, interfered with matters concerning selection, and was an incapable administrator. Miandad had said at the time that the scope of his role in the contract letter was significantly reduced from what he had initially discussed with the chairman.
As director general, Miandad had unveiled big plans to revamp Pakistan’s domestic cricket, putting the focus back on departments and private organisations from regions. He had also questioned the rationale behind banning players involved in the ICL.
