Miandad Supports ICL

Most famous batsman and the former captain of Pakistan cricket team Javed Miandad wishes the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to recognize the Indian Cricket League (ICL) before it escalate into the magnitude of Kerry Packet’s parallel World Series of 30 years ago. Former captain of Pakistan cricket team was quoted that I do not think this policy of banning players is going to work practically while each player have his right to make decision about his future.

“Any player can go to court and challenge any ban on him to play in and for his country, since Indian Cricket League (ICL) is not something which governments have object to. ICC and its member boards need to take the ICL seriously, because it has potential like the Kerry Packer series to snowball into something big.”, Miandad thinks.

Pakistan Cricket Board has reiterated that any contracted player joining the ICL would thereafter not be considered for selection for Pakistan. So far Inzamam-ul-Haq, Muhammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Imran Farhat have signed up to play in the breakaway contest in its initial season, this way due to a sense of uncertainty and lack of financial security.

Every player has to look to his future and security and in Pakistan there is no financial security for your retirement days.

Javed Miandad, who also played in the Packer series and appeared in 124 Test for Pakistan, said that Indian Cricket League could serve as a flashpoint between international players and the ICC and its members boards. For sometime now the players have been complaining of excessive cricket and not enough wages. The Indian Cricket League offers them as alternative.

If there is a clash of commitment then of course it is a different matter entirely; otherwise, it can not be ban any player as long as he fulfills his commitments to the board.
