My confidence is increasing, says Hafeez
Pakistan opener Mohammad Hafeez says he is gaining more confidence with each Test innings after scoring an unbeaten fifty on the third day of the final Test against the West Indies at the National Stadium here on Wednesday.
“I have been gaining more and more confidence since making a comeback to the Pakistan team in England and it is all because of my captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Bob Woolmer who have shown faith in my abilities,” said Hafeez.
Hafeez added that Inzamam and Woolmer have been supporting him all along since his Pakistan return with the fateful Test at The Oval in August.
Since then the talented Hafeez, who is also a useful spinner, has played some good innings and has provided some stability at the top of the Pakistan batting order.
Hafeez, who scored 18 in the first innings of the Karachi Test, said the pitch is easing out a bit. “On the first day of this match, there was a lot of variation in the bounce but it has improved. But I believe it is still very difficult to play shots on this track,” he expressed.
It is because of this reason that Hafeez scored 57 after almost four hours stay on the wicket on Wednesday.
“We batted slowly to bat out the new ball and build a good foundation because it is a difficult wicket for batting,” said Hafeez referring to the snail-paced start he and opener Imran Farhat gave to Pakistan in the second innings.
Hafeez added he would continue to concentrate and play a big one for Pakistan on Thursday, saying, “I think we are in a position to give the West Indies a target of 350 which will not be easy on this wicket.”
