Pakistan’s Devastating World Cup

A fact-finding mission’s report on Pakistan’s devastating World Cup campaign caries noting on widespread fears that match-fixing have been the reason behind the national team’s near the beginning way out from the 16-nation competition in March. One of the members of a three-man Performance Evaluation Committee formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to probe the World Cup debacles said that the committee’s report sent to the PCB chairman does not talk about anything on match-fixing.

The chairman of PCB said that: ‘The report finalized by us carries not anything on match-fixing. It focuses on the reasons behind our poor performance in the World Cup and gives suggestions on how we can avoid such disasters in the future,’

The official, who requested anonymity, said that none of the players and officials questioned by the committee said anything on the match-fixing allegations. He said that most of them suggested that Pakistan should improve the quality of their pitches and umpiring besides improving the structure of their domestic competitions.

According to him, the committee’s findings say that Pakistan was knocked out of the World Cup mainly because of unfortunate batting.
