Pakistan beat India to win Blind World Cup
Pakistan won the title for the second time in a row beating India by six wickets in the final of 3rd Cricket World Cup for the Blind at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The Pakistan team, which achieved the distinction of playing in all the three World Cup finals, was captained by Abdul Razzaq who also led his side in their first World Cup triumph.
Man of the Match Noor Qureshi hit an unbeaten century as Pakistan achieved the target of 226 for the loss of three wickets in just 29.2 overs. Noor’s 102-run innings was well supported by Muhammad Akram who chipped in with 62.
Earlier, put into bat first, India scored 225 for the loss of seven wickets in stipulated 40 overs. Pakistani fielder exhibited outstanding work in the field as six Indian batsmen were run out. Subhash Bhoya was the top scorer with 54 runs.
“It is double delight for me to retain the world title for the country,” team captain Abdul Razzaq in his post match comments said.
He termed the victory as a team work and particularly commended the all-round performance of Aamir Ashfaq in the tournament who won the best batsman and best bowler award of the tournament in B-1 category.
Governor Punjab, Lt. General (retd) Khalid Maqbool, was the chief guest at prize distribution ceremony. He announced a cash prize money of half million rupees for the Pakistan team.
The Pakistan team also got two lac rupees as a win bonus. All the best players in their categories were given cash prizes of two hundred dollars each.
Pakistan’s Abdul Razzaq was declared as the best bowler in B-2 category while Moxi Lee of Australia was termed the outstanding bowler in B-3 class. Ashish Nego of India and his teammate Naik were announced best players of the championship in B-2 and B-3 category.
Nathan Foy of England was adjudged as the best fielder in B-1 category. Ashish Negi also won a prize of the best fielder in B-2 class while Muhammad Fayyaz excelled in the field department in B-3 category. The chairman of the World Blind Cricket Council, Peter Donovan, commended Pakistani organizers for holding the world event in an excellent way.
The Jang Group and Geo Television acted as major sponsors of the competition. The host country for the 4th Cricket World Cup for the Blind would be decided at a meeting of the World Blind Cricket Council in October next year.
