Two Pakistan investigators on Tuesday met with the detective in-charge of the Bob Woolmer murder case in Kingston (Jamaica) as the probe into cricket history’s most shocking episode resumed after a four-day break due to Easter.

Sources told this correspondent that Pakistani investigators — Zubair Mehmood and Kaleem Imam — had a meeting with Mark Shields, Jamaica’s Deputy Commissioner Police who is heading the murder inquiry of the slain Pakistani coach.

Zubair, DIG Investigations and Kaleem, a senior FIA detective, are in the island to assist the Jamaican authorities in solving the Woolmer murder mystery.

Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious in his hotel room in Kingston on March 18 and later pronounced dead at a local hospital there. A full murder inquiry was launched by the Jamaican Police after an autopsy report revealed that the Pakistan coach was strangled.

The shocking murder of Woolmer, one of cricket’s world’s most accomplished and respected coaches, threatened to disrupt the ongoing World Cup in the Caribbean. A team of detectives from several parts of the world has now assembled in Jamaica to assist the local investigators there but so far not much progress has been made in the case.

Four Scotland Yard detectives are in Kingston along with a French DNA expert and now the Pakistani investigators have offered their expertise to solve the case.

There was a four-day off in the Caribbean starting from Friday because of Easter due to which the murder probe slowed down a bit.

However, starting on Tuesday things have heated up again.

Meanwhile, Woolmer’s body is still kept in Kingston till the completion of a coroner’s inquest ordered to find the exact cause of the Englishman’s death.

Sources said that it would still even two more weeks before the authorities decide a timeframe for the body to be flown to South Africa, Woolmer’s adopted homeland. The authorities have told the Pakistanis that they would know by April 23 as to when the body would be released.

Asad Mustafa, Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCBs) general manager (logistics) is in Kingston waiting for the inquest to be over so he can arrange for the body to be sent to Woolmer’s family in Cape Town.

Asad, who was a member of the Pakistani World Cup contingent as manager logistics, met with the Pakistani investigators on Monday to give them his point of view about the case.

Pakistani players and officials were at the centre of the Police investigations last month following Woolmer’s death that came just hours after Pakistan were shocked by underdogs Ireland and had to bow out of the World Cup.

The players and officials were interrogated, finger-printed and swabbed for DNA before being allowed to fly back home to avoid a diplomatic row.

One of the reasons why Pakistani investigators are in Jamaica is because their players have still not been completely cleared by the Jamaican Police.
