Pakistan may not need replacement for Rana

Chief selector Wasim Bari believes Pakistan may not need a replacement for Rana Naved-ul-Hasan following the “good news†that the injured medium pacer can regain fitness without any surgery.
“Apparently it looks like that things are okay because it has been more than a week since the (Pakistan) squad left for England and there has been no request for Rana’s replacement from the team management as yet,†Bari told this correspondent on Sunday.
Rana is currently making efforts to get fit for the Test series after a specialist in England told him last week that a surgery is not required for his groin injury.
Bari said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan informed him a few days back that Rana would not need a surgery and would be able to bowl in the next ten days or so.
“That is good news because we believe Rana could be one of Pakistan’s strong points against England,†said the former Test cricketer who added that Rana’s recent county experience would help him against England in the Test series. Rana had a successful few weeks for Sussex before being hit by a groin injury earlier this summer.
Bari said he is not expecting a request for a replacement for Rana from the team management but was quick to add that Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has the option to do that whenever he needs an addition player.
