Pakistanis meet lawyers
Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, team manager Zaheer Abbas and two other players met the lawyers hired by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday as a part of the campaign launched by the tourists to clear their names of ball-tampering charges.
Zaheer Abbas told this correspondent that he, Inzamam, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and medium pacer Umar Gul had a meeting with Pakistan’s lawyers. “It was a routine meeting,” he later said. “The lawyers want to probe every aspect of the picture in a bid to put up a strong case when the time comes.”
The ICC has levelled charges of ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute against Inzamam following The Oval Test controversy. A hearing is expected to take place in London at the end of this month to discuss the issue.
Kaneria and Umar Gul were the key figures in the ball-tampering controversy that was ignited on the fourth day of the final Test against England by the Australian umpire Darrell Hair.
Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan also accompanied the Pakistani players in their meeting with the lawyers.
