Shafqat Nagmi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) gave the full particulars of the board’s ambitious development plan which lays special emphasis on the grooming the talent at junior level. COO stated the duty jurisdictions of two of its top officials – Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan and Director Development Mudassar Nazar were laid down by in a meeting of the PCB directors which was attended by Zakir Khan, Mudassar Nazar, PCB Chief Operating Officer Shafqat Nagmi and Director Marketing Dr. Ahsan Hameed. This was part of their development plan which focuses the development of the game at the grass roots level and which the board considers its top priority.

Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan would look after the game at the club and school level while Mudassar would take care of the under-16 cricket which bolds the key to development of national level cricketers. Pakistan Cricket Board also plans to develop at lest 100 cricket grounds in the next 03 years as part of its development plan at the grassroots level.

PCB and Punjab government will be signing an MOU in the next couple of days for the control of the Rawalpindi and Faisalabad Stadiums as well. Chief Minister Ch. Parvaiz Elahi is very keen to develop the game in the province. Besides, efforts are also underway to acquire land on lease in Islamabad to construct a stadium like Melbourne Australia. In August, 2007, the PCB officials will be giving a presentation to Capital Development Authority and the stadium would be a joint public and private venture. Cameras inter-linked with internet will also be installed at stadiums to monitor the activities of the groundstaff.

PCB has provided one hundred grounds will also be maintained by a curator and support staff. On the acquiring the bio-mechanics software, the PCB COO stated that it is a little complicated issue. PCB can easily buy the software, which can help us judge the flaws of the batsmen and prevent injuries in the bowlers but to run this requires an expert. England has sponsored a person for completing a PhD in this technology and for running the bio-mechanics software we too require and expert. Talks are underway with LUMS and NED University for the expertise.
