PCB and Fast Bowlers
Pakistan Cricket Board right now in huge quandary as what to do about the existing fast bowlers who have caught themselves in disgusting jams. Shoaib Akhtar has shot himself in the foot and has earned him a career-sucking ban, while Mohammad Asif has also shown his mental inability and the character-less approach by indulging in drug smuggling.
Shoaib Akhtar is right now nursing his ban of one and half year, and now pleading with everyone to get him off the hook. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Nasim Ashraf says Shoaib Akhtar is free to appeal against the reduced 18-month ban and the hefty fine imposed on him by the PCB appellate tribunal for indiscipline. Shoaib could either go to High Court or to the Supreme Court, and it is perhaps expected that he would get more relief.
Mohammad Asif is still in detention in Dubai, after having cought with the opium. Mohammad Asif has been in detention since June 1 when he was caught with contraband drugs at Dubai airport on his way back home from India after playing in the Indian Premier League. He isn’t expected to be released from the detention for another 10 to 12 days, and the reports are that he is weeping in the detention cell.
PCB must take these incidents into accounts. They must teach ethics to their players, and their education is must. It’s good that Dubai authorities are making an example of the fast bowler, as it would deter others from doing so. PCB has made an example of Shoaib Akhtar. This hopes to get things straight for the other players of the team.
