PCB chief confident Inzamam will be cleared

Pakistan cricket chief Shaharyar Khan said on Tuesday he was confident Inzamam-ul-Haq will be cleared of disciplinary charges by the International Cricket Council (ICC), adding that the tourists have never thought about not selecting him for the ICC Champions Trophy in India.
“We are very hopeful that the charges against Inzamam would be dropped so to say that we are thinking about whether to select him for the Champions Trophy is not current. It is too early for that,” said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.
His comments contradicted a statement attributed to a PCB official by a news agency on Tuesday which said Pakistan would consult the ICC before selecting Inzamam for their Champions Trophy squad.
Director Cricket Operations PCB Saleem Altaf was quoted as saying by the agency that Pakistan will have to take ICC’s advice before selecting their 14-man squad for the Champions Trophy. All the competing teams have to submit their teams by September 7.
Inzamam has been charged by the ICC for ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute following The Oval Test fiasco. The ICC has planned a hearing over Inzamam’s case in the second week of September.
If found guilty, Inzamam could be banned for up to ten one-dayers but Shaharyar said that Pakistan were confident he would be cleared. “Inzamam has a strong case and he remains our captain for the Champions Trophy,” he said.
