PCB Gathers Support for Champions Trophy
Nathan Hauritz, the Australian offspinner, Shane Watson, another Aussie player and even Sourav Ganguly the left out Indian batsman have echoed their willingness to play in Pakistan and they are of the opinion that they are only interested in the game and they want to represent their country no matter where it’s needed.
The Westerners are really worried over the security issues in the Pakistan, and their many players have shown their reservations tto play in the Pakistan. Australian Cricket Board along with New Zealand Cricket and the England board, had hired Reg Dickson, an independent security expert, to visit Karachi and submit a report on the security measures for the Asia Cup. The report by Dickson has not been made public yet.
The recent strings of seven bomb blasts in Karachi, where many matches of Champions Trophy are to be played as also poured cold water on the hopes of Pakistan Cricket Board, but they are still half hopeful.
PCB is also lobbying hard in the ICC and is trying to gather support from the Asian boards including Indian, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi boards in that regard, and up till now no Asian team has shown any reservation for the holding of Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
