PCB More Isolated
It seems that the woes of Pakistan Cricket Board have come under the never ending vicious cycles, and now it is threatening the future of cricket in the country. The talent has already dried up and the team unity is in shambles, and now due to the security concerns of the international teams, there is no cricket in the country, and even nobody is interested in playing with Pakistan even outside Pakistan.
Now PCB is being criticized for sticking it’s guns to holding the prestigious tournament of Champion’s Trophy next year in October. That is now being severely opposed by every team. Former International Cricket Council (ICC) president Ehsan Mani has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to surrender the hosting rights of the ICC Champions Trophy to be held by October 2009. Srilankan board has also said that it wouldn’t be available for the tournament.
The Indian board has rejected suggestions made during a meeting of the ICC’s chief executives in Dubai recently to conduct the Champions Trophy in October 2009 because it will clash with the “very important” one-day series at home against Australia. This is the time when ICC should come into play and work closely with PCB. The ICC needs to step in and play a more decisive role. If teams keep on refusing to tour Pakistan despite assurances even from our government we will become an isolated cricket nation.
The ICC board had, on August 24, decided to postpone the Champions Trophy that was originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan from September 12 after five of the eight participating nations expressed security concerns about the host country.
