Pakistan cricket’s think-tank would meet in Lahore today to discuss a new central contracts system for leading players to be put into place later this month.

PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf would meet with other Board officials and members of the national selection committee at the PCB headquarters to take their input on the new pay structure.A source in the PCB told this correspondent that the selectors would recommend around 25 players for the central contracts to be awarded on July 1. The PCB is planning to give central contracts to around 20 of the country’s top players.

The Board suspended the previous contracts in March following Pakistan’s disastrous World Cup campaign in March.The PCB has asked the national selectors to identify players for central contracts based on their form and fitness. Former Test cricketer Salahuddin Ahmed alias Sallu is the chairman of the committee while two other ex-Test players Shafqat Rana and Saleem Jaffar are the committee members.

Two of the selectors are currently in Lahore where they met with former Pakistan Test opener Mudassar Nazar, Director of the National Cricket Academy. Saleem Jaffar was unable to attend the meeting because of domestic reasons.

The officials discussed various issues pertaining to the training young players for future international assignments and the possibility of the selectors identifying talented youngsters for training at the NCA.
