PCB wants praise but no transparency
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has on its official website highlighted extracts from the report of the Wales and England Cricket Board (ECB) annual statement reports and accounts 2005 in which Chairman David Morgan has praised the hospitality extended to his team last year when they toured Pakistan.
But if anything the highlighting of the ECB report has once again raised the same old question: Where is the PCB annual statement and accounts?
If the ECB and most of the other well-organized cricket boards can issue their annual statements and accounts regularly to keep everyone updated and also ensure a greater degree of transparency in their financial dealings, why can’t the PCB do this.
Because it is not even as if Shaharyar Khan has just taken over as Chairman of the PCB or it now has a new set-up of administrators. So when are we going to see the PCB also develop this culture of issuing annual statements and accounts for transparency sake.
The PCB from time to time has issued limited statement of accounts about ticket sales for some series but never a statement of accounts for their total budget.
Anyway returning to the statement of David Morgan he has some glowing praise for the PCB and its organization of the series.
He said: “Pakistan deserve great credit for their 2-0 Test victory and 3-2 ODI victory against England; the people of Pakistan also deserve credit for the hospitality they extended to the team and management during the tour.â€
“Security fears surrounding the tour proved unfounded and the relationship between the England team and the Pakistani people grew stronger following some of the charity and relief work undertaken by the players - particularly in the region affected by the earthquake.â€
“The strong links between the ECB and the PCB should be further strengthened this year when Pakistan tour in the second part of the summer, following the visit of Sri Lanka.â€
