PCB’S Bilked Constitution
Like we know that Pakistan will be a developed country very soon, we also hear that constitution of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will also be applied. Chairman PCB, Dr. Nasim Ashraf, has once again told media that as soon as attorney general of Pakistan manages to through the constitution, it will be implemented, after the approval from the president of Pakistan, General Pervaiz Musharraf.
Pakistan Cricket Board is running on ad-hoc basis for a long time now. The only thing which looks permanent in PCB’s affairs is ad-hocism. Nasim Ashraf is the third chairman, who is trying to enforce the constitution. First an army man, General Tauqeer Zia tried to implement it, then came the diplomat Shahryar Khan, and now Nasim Ashraf is animatedly talking about the implementation of constitution in a familiar way.
He was more vocal and sure about the implementation of constitution, when he was fresh at the job. He even went to the point two or three times, where he gave the timeframe for the implementation of constitution, but you know time is not much of the priority. Now it seems that adhocism will stay for a long time, because chairman has thrown the ball in the court of attorney general, who is ultra busy in the legal crises, and who knows when he will be free enough to have a look at the constitution of PCB.
Grave issues like Bob Woolmer’s mysterious death(which has gone to the background like other mysterious death, why our memories are so short?), Doping case and its handling, Inzamam’s captaincy and his approach, selection issues, domestic cricket, world cup performance of the national team, and plethora of other issues demands a formal and constitutional approach, which is very hard to accomplish on the adhoc basis.
On every forum, former cricketers and renowned cricket journalists and even the standing committees of national assembly have said it time and again that PCB requires a constitution, if we want to see cricket on track in the Pakistan. For the quality of game and the professionalism, constitution is the key.
