PCB’s Constitution Sees Light of the Day
At last after so many years Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gets its constitution, which remained one of the most evasive issue in board in the recent years. For some weird reasons, the successive chairmen of PCB remained reluctant and dormant to push forward the constitution, and preferred the adhocism in the board.
Dr. Nasim Ashraf wasn’t much different. He also first tried to postpone and delay the constitution, and cajoled with the media, and lied to the standing committee of senate numerous times about the approval of the constitution. He also started tussle with the standing committee for sports in this regard, and media reported many bitter fights between Chairman PCB and the chairman standing committee. Even the attorney general of Pakistan rebuked chairman PCB for lying, as chairman PCB used to defend himself by saying that constitution was delayed not by him but by the office of attorney general.
Now, at last after all these cajoling, lies, and politics, the notification of PCB’s constution is here. Law ministry has approved it, and now sports ministry will render the notification of PCB constitution, and then PCB would start following it.
According to this constitution, the appointment of chairman of PCB will be done by the Patern in Chief, who is the President of Pakistan, and chairman will have the authority to appoint directors, chief operation officers and other officials. Adhoc committee will also work under the umbrella of constitution. A 15-member governing body will be introduced, which will include representatives from 11 regions, and each representative will be for two years. Besides of this each region will appoint five representatives.
Chairman PCB will also have the privilege to appoint the test cricketers. The constitution will enable PCB to work more professionally and the things will become more transparent and systematic. This will not only benefit the PCB, but also will facilitate the overall skeleton of cricket in the country. In the past there have been strong allegations of corruption in the board, and there was virtually no check and balance. But now, after this implementation of constitution, one can hope that now the good governance would prevail in the board.
