Ponting Disagrees for Pakistan Tour
Quite understandably Kangaroos are very much shocked and fearful over the sudden change in Pakistani current affairs and they have expressed their dire reservations about safety and security in the wake of their incoming scheduled tour of Pakistan. Though Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and skipper Shoaib Malik has tried to convince the Aussies that there is no problem in Pakistan, the images on television from Karachi and other parts of country are suffice to chase off even the Kenyan players.
Ricky Ponting, the dashing Australian captain has expressed his profound desire and has also in writing said to his board that he and many other players of the team wanted to play with Pakistan, but they are not ready to risk their lives, and wanted the series to be shifted at some other neutral venue like Sharjah or Dacca.
PCB and the Pakistani players are vehemently opposing this suggestion of shifting of the series, as it happened in 2002-03, when the series was played in Sharjah and Srilanka. Australia hasn’t traveled to Pakistan since 1998-99, and is unwilling to do it even after almost ten years. Pakistanis love their cricket and also pine to see the world’s best team in their grounds. They understand the apprehensions of the guest teams, but they don’t want the game to be damaged by the affairs.
Australian captain has said that he understands the sentiments of Pakistani players and spectators and would like to play with Pakistan as Australia has played less against Pakistan, but he also has to see to the security of his teammates. It’s the duty of the government of Pakistan to make sure that guest teams get total and consummate security so that the nation can forget their sufferings for a while, while watching their favorite game.
