ICL: Indian Cricket League

Power fiasco in Kolkata again

Power failure continued to haunt Eden Gardens as the lights in two of the four towers went out today during the Kolkata Knight Riders’ practice session even as the authorities decided to shift the April 29 Indian Premier League (IPL) tie to an adjacent pitch.

“The match next Tuesday will be played on a new pitch.

“The track that hosted the last match needs to be rested and we have to work on it,” BCCI’s pitch and grounds committee chairman Daljit Singh told reporters after making a survey of the wicket.

Daljit had flown here last night and spent the entire day at the Eden Gardens after annoyed BCCI and IPL authorities directed him to rush to the city and suggest remedial measures to the CAB following the hue and cry over the poor strip that had robbed much of the fun from the twenty20 game between the Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers.

Already reeling under criticism after a power snag halted Sunday night’s IPL tie for 31 minutes, the Cricket Association of Bengal saw its problems intensify as there was a partial power-breakdown from 6-02 pm to 6-20 pm.

However, the Knight Riders’ tune-up session continued uninterrupted.

CAB joint secretary Samar Pal could not specify any reason for the latest snag, saying the matter had to be looked into.
