Rain holds up India-West Indies Test
Overnight and early morning showers have delayed the start of play on the fourth day in the second Test between the West Indies and India on Tuesday here at the Beausejour Cricket Ground (BCG).
The West Indies, following on 373 runs behind on first innings, were to continue from their bedtime total of 43 for one with opener Daren Ganga not out on 24, alongside captain and batting superstar Brian Lara not out on 15.
Replying to India’s first innings total of 588 for eight declared, the West Indies had been dismissed for 215 about 10 minutes past the scheduled tea break on Monday’s third day.
The weather outlook from the St Lucia meteorological office stated: “Cloudy skies with periods of rain, some moderate showers and a chance of a few thunderstorms … winds will remain brisk … expect some interruptions in the cricket match.â€
The four-Test series is level at 0-0, after the first Test at the Antigua Recreation Ground ended in a tense draw, with the West Indies’ last wicket pair of Edwards and Collymore surviving the last 19 balls of the match. The series concludes with Tests at Basseterre (June 22-26), and Kingston (June 30 to July 4).
