Razzaq keeps Worcs at head of points table
Pakistan’s discarded all-rounder Abdul Razzaq produced a batting performance that he is reputed to serve his country with in hectic run-chases, as he helped his new English county Worcestershire race to a six-wicket win over Lancashire, in a Pro40 Division One limited overs match, here at the County Ground on Saturday.
Steven Davies launched the chase with an explosive 83, giving the middle order enough breathing space against the spin of Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and Gary Keedy. He hit 12 fours in a knock made off just 78 balls.
The unbroken partnership for the fifth wicket between veteran Graeme Hick and Abdul Razzaq produced 73 runs in a mere 33 minutes. Hick ended unbeaten at 50 off 46 balls with three fours and two sixes as Razzaq hammered 35 not out off 26 balls with three fours and a six.
Worcestershire scored 255 for four and won with 14 overs to spare. Earlier, Lancashie had made 254-6 in the allotted 40 overs with India’s VVS Laxman scoring 85 not out off 86 balls with eight fours. Razzaq’s medium-fast fetched him 1-67 in his eight overs.
Worcestershire are currently leading the Pro40 Division One table with nine points, collected from four wins in five matches.
