Sangakkara Massacre
Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium in Kandy witnessed a blistering show from the all-time beauty Sangakkara. His back-to-back test double centuries in the current series against the minnows Bangladesh will be considered two of his best performances.
Kumar Sangakkara broke many records by his spectacular show down. He became the sixth human to score consecutive double centures in test matches ever. He joined the ranks of Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting and some other big names by recording this feat. Though his first hundred last week at Sara Stadium, wasn’t as comfortable as this one, but the fight he put up with the opposition and himself was second to none. It was an exquisite display of his strength of resolve. He himself said,”This double hundred was slightly more fluent than the one I got at the Sara Stadium. There was a bit more rhythm in this innings. I didn’t struggle as much as I did in Colombo. I still think I’ve a few things to iron out back in the nets when I go to Colombo so that I get everything down the way I want it to be.”
In the recent years, Sangakkara has been phenomenal in the Sri Lankan cricket. He is considered the backbone of the team, and has delivered on the crunch junctures. His One Day International career is as adorned with achievements as his test career. Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara on Jul 20-23, 2000 against South Africa at Galle, and never looked back. He has remained prolific throughout his career. In his 66 test matches, he has scored some 5270 runs with the stunning average of 53, and his ODI average remains 36 in 200 matches. His test highest is 287 and ODI all-time high is 138. Due to his calculated and explosive batting, Srilanka wiped Bengalis from the face of cricket with 3-0. The cruel white-wash was a thorough and professional job, well executed by the Sangakkara with a chic style. He moved to Number 3 in ICC ranking. This beautiful Srilankan player born on October 27, 1977 at Matale.
