Security around the Pakistan team has been beefed up following a series of blasts in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

There was a bigger police presence here at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium when the Pakistan team bus arrived for the third day’s play in the first Test against India on Saturday.

According to some sources, special commandoes have also been deployed for the safety of the Pakistanis.

A series of blasts rocked the cities of Lucknow, Ferozeabad and Veranasi in Uttar Pradesh, leaving scores of people dead.

In another twist, a local television channel claimed receiving an email from an extremist group which has asked the Pakistanis to leave India.

“We have received an email that threatens an attack against the Pakistan team if it doesn’t leave India,” Manoj Kumar Shrivastva, a senior producer for India TV, told this correspondent. He said that the matter was reported to the Delhi Police.

However, the Pakistani team officials are not concerned. “We have complete faith in the security arrangements made by the local authorities,” a team official said.

He also rejected the impression that additional security has been provided to the Pakistani players following the UP blasts.
