Shane Warne puts heat on England
Australian spin king [tag]Shane Warne[/tag] questioned whether [tag]England[/tag] could handle the pressure of being hunted in next summer’s showpiece [tag]Ashes[/tag] cricket series.
Due to leave for England today, Warne said that Michael Vaughan’s men had yet to show that they had the nerve and confidence to take on all-comers and be world’s best team.
Since ending a 16-year Ashes drought last year, and jumping to No.2 on International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings, England has lost a three-Test series in Pakistan 2-0 and drawn 1-1 in India.
Australia, in the same period, has won 11 of 12 Tests and used 21 players in a bid to find the right balance.
“For the first time, it will be us chasing England,†Warne said. “It’s a different mindset. England will have to come out to Australia and have to try and retain the trophy. It’s a different position for them to be in. I am not sure they like it,†he explained.
“I think they like the position that they are underdogs and if they win, they win. You look at their form since Ashes series; they have won only one Test and have won three or four one-dayers,†he said.
“England are basically now the second-best side in the world. It takes a bit of time to adapt. It’s a different mindset when you approach the series and suddenly your own expectations, and everybody else’s expectations, are that you are going to win,†he added.

Mr Warne is indeed right that England has been performing poorly after the Ashes.
But one must remember that many of its players were injured which include some very important personalities like Vaughan and Trescothick and also that it is not easy to defeat countries in the subcontinent at their Home Soil.In fact,I feel that Flintoff led England brilliantly to restrict India to a 1-1 draw in the Test Series. In the One dayers however,it was another story.
