Sharjah to hold Twenty20 Cup in June
A Twenty20 Summer Cricket Cup will be held under floodlights at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium here in the first week of June.
The event, to be organised and conducted by the Sharjah Cricket Council, is open to all registered teams and corporate houses of the regional councils. Each day two matches will be played, starting from 7pm. The tournament will follow international rules with coloured clothing and white balls.
Secretary General Sharjah Cricket Council Nasir Akram said, “With this shorter version of cricket generating tremendous interest amongst the local clubs, fans and corporate houses, I am confident that day is not far when associate members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) join full members in playing game on international circuit.â€
The popularity of Twenty20 is set to scale new heights when the first ICC Twenty20 World Cup will be played in South Africa next year.
Nasir said this version of the game has already become a success in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and prognosis points to exciting days ahead.
